This is not to say that the school is unaccepting of the queer community, as many are supportive of the community. This, of course, is only one example of the difficulty in the progression of LGBTQ+ rights in middle schools, and I believe there is always room to improve. They instead must use the staff bathrooms during the school day, which are often locked/restricted for students. The Manheim Township School District’s Special Education department has Services and Programs available to meet the needs of exceptional students as determined by the Individual Education Program (IEP) teams. Being friends with a person who identifies as nonbinary has led me to discover the difficulty for them to access a bathroom in school. The exact reason for this is unknown, but many speculated it was a result of an unhappy student who lodged a complaint with the school and the destruction of the bathroom over the few weeks it had been available. The only student-friendly, gender-neutral bathroom was removed. Freshman: At MTWP, the teachers, students, and staff are mainly very kind and considerate, with counseling constantly available, although I would enjoy some changes in the awareness of trans and queer students.
